LaTeX and TeXShop on a Mac

LaTeX and TeXShop on a Mac
TeXShop is a front-end to TeX. TeX is a typesetting program, and LaTeX is a large collection of macros for TeX.

To install both:

1. Go to: www.tug.org/mactex/
2. Double-click on MacTeX.dmg package to download (a large >350mb download).
3. This is an install package that will give you a TeX distribution, and a set of front-end programs to go with TeX, including: TeXShop, BibDesk, and Excalibur.
4. You'll also get i-installer, which lets you do updates.
5. When the package is downloaded, run the installer.

How to Install Style and BiBTeX Style files

1. Create the following folder ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex/misc
2. Place any style files (*.sty) in this folder.
3. Create the following folder ~/Library/texmf/bibtex/bst
4. Place any BiBTeX style files (*.bst) in this folder.
